Top 10 #1 Hit Wonders 0

We all have our favourite bands that tend to have many hits that we can cycle through on an extensive playlist, but how about those certain artists that produced the most popular one hit wonders?
10. Turning Japanese – The Vapors
A song well known with the band not well known starts this list off, achieving success in Australia by spending two weeks at No.1 in June 1980. Another hit song was never released again from the band.
9. Macarena – Los Del Rio
This song is one of the most popular dance songs to be used at weddings, parties, and sporting events. It continues to stir us with nostalgia from those early 2000s, the only thing it will ever do.
8. Mambo No.5 – Lou Bega
Another popular hit that reached number one in Australia and the UK, becoming the bet selling single in 1999. But that was all the success he would achieve, having a very dead end career there on.
7. Kung Fu Fighting – Carl Douglas
This popular song that is used to parody the Kung Fu world, was exactly why it was made. The main purpose was to work out a melody for another song, without being taking seriously, yet it achieved major success worldwide.
6. Who Let the Dogs Out? – Baha Men
A big parody hit that topped the Australian and New Zealand charts, was simply something you may hear your parents chime when you forgot to shut the front door. That’s about how much this song will ever get played.
5. My Sharona – The Knack
This debut single is a case of starting off a little too well for ‘The Knack’. It sold one million records, being the fastest selling single since The Beatles’ ‘’I Want to Hold Your Hand’’ in 1964. Since then, they haven’t released anything to the success this banger garnered.
4. Dexy’s Midnight Runners – Come on Eileen
The most complete and catchy song on this list, ‘Come on Eileen’ peaked at No.1 on the UK charts and even made the top 20 songs of the 80s on VH1. A very well constructed and classic melody may have you hooked, but their other music isn’t as great.
3. Take on Me – A-ha
Norwegian synthpop band A-ha aren’t very popular as you can tell, yet ‘Take on Me’ topped the Billboard 100 in 1985 and came in at Number two on the UK singles chart earning them enough respect for their time.
2. Eye of the Tiger – Survivor
As soon as the start of this iconic one hit wonder plays, all we can think of is Rocky, the only reason this song caught on and became a legendary hit amongst moviegoers and music listeners. Written by Sylvester Stallone’s brother Frank, it still reached Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and still fills us with joy to this day.
1. Ice Ice Baby – Vanilla Ice
The reason this takes the cake on our list is simply due to it being the only musical contribution Vanilla Ice made that we acknowledged, and for it being the first hip-hop single to reach the Billboard Hot 100. Yet whenever that baseline hits, we dance.
As we look back at this list, it may seem like a lot of untalented musicians got lucky with their one hit wonders, but anything that fills fans with nostalgia and joy when the hit comes on, is a win in my books and all these artists can look back and be proud.
